Hello everyone,

Could you please explain me what is the working principle of the water seal pot of the pressure reducing valve (PRV)?

Also, the water seal pot has similar function with the pitot tube?

Hi,

The WATER SEAL POT is specially designed to protect diaphragms in pressure reducing valves, when the media temperature exceeds the diaphragm maximum operating temperature. It's inserted in the valve's control line.

Hi thanks for the reply.
My question is also about the working principle of the line that acts on the pressure reducing valve. How it works and how the set point is achieved?

Do you have a drawing or schematic, please? Or a vendor and model number. I’ve never seen one of these.

Hi,

The water inside the pot and between the pot and valve actuator just acts as a medium to prevent direct contact of the hot process fluid, say hot steam, with valve diaphragm and will insert the process fluid  pressure to the diaphragm for valve actuation. The set point is to be adjusted in the valve by relevant adjustment device hence this seal pot nothing to do with the valve's set point adjustment.

Hi,

Thanks again for the further explanation.
I have one last question, since there is not any sensor element, how it is undestood by the system that the pressure is not the preferred one?

Hi,

This is a self acting pressure reducing valve and the set point is fixed by regulating the spring force inserted the process fluid pressure (here through the water seal) from the valve diaphragm to the valve disc to adjust the valve opening to meet the required pressure at valve downstream.
