Hi,
I am in the process of determining the overall heat transfer for a HC gas system (mostly C1-C4) at around ~720-750 PSIG. I am trying to estimate overall heat transfer coefficient b/w the following utilities.
1. Heating Utility
a. HP Steam
b. Hot Oil
2. Cooling Utility
a. Cooling water
b. Refrigerant
i. Note :- Someone told me that HP steam & Refrigerant are going to have a same U value, as both are going to have a phase change (Steam from vapor to liquid & Refrigerant from liquid to vapor). bit confused why it would happen ?
ii. I am of the opinion that steam is obviously going to have a higher heat transfer coefficient than Hot oil or cooling water, but my colleague are making me bit confused as they had used higher U values for Hot oil in their past projects and currently I don't have any reference against their values.
Let me know if anyone can suggest estimate U values or some reference based on the Industry experience.
