Typical is to size reflux drums based on liquid flowrate so you first need to determine the flowrate to the reflux drum based on your column requirements. If the drum were half full of liquid, it should be sized for about five minutes of holdup time. This should give time for the operator to identify problems and take appropriate action. Liquid drums are usually horizontal with a length to diameter ratio in the range of 3 to 5.
