Hi everyone,

I'm working on building a basic dynamic simulation of a crude distillation unit (CDU) in HYSYS that can handle dual feed sources to simulate crude switching scenarios. The idea is to model how the unit responds dynamically during the transition, including changes in product yields, energy balances, and stabilization after the switch.

Here’s what I’m aiming to include:

  • Dual feed inputs with varying flow rates, compositions, and temperatures.
  • Dynamic behavior tracking key variables over time.

Is anyone ever tried to model it and can give example ?

Thanks in advance

I think the dual feed setup sounds tricky. Have you thought about how the temp changes might mess with the separation efficiency? Tracking yields is cool, but what specific variables are you looking at? What’s the end goal of your simulation?

Thanks for your response! Yes, my primary goal is to simulate the crude switch and understand its effects on the CDU. I’m particularly interested in how the unit handles transitions between different feedstocks and how this impacts product yields, separation efficiency, and energy balances. The only difference between the two feedstocks is the composition.
