Hi,
Process Heat transfer by D Kern,

Surface condensers for steam are often very large exchangers. These need to operate with very low pressure drops under high vacuum. If you intend to purchase one, I suggest having it designed by a power plant engineer or an experienced vendor. Properly designed steam surface condensers look quite different from designs for other services. The nozzles and bundle design can be much more complex than petrochemical exchangers. Some considerations: How to get the steam to all the tubes with low pressure drop, how to minimize condensate subcooling, how to vent inert gases continuously while minimizing steam loss. These considerations must be included in the design and cannot easily be fixed later.
