Hi everyone,
 
I am interested in discussing the practical factors that should be considered when optimizing cement grinding aid dosage in a cement plant.
 
In practice, the optimum dosage seems to vary significantly between different plants and cement types. Factors such as clinker grindability, cement fineness, mill ventilation, separator efficiency, cement temperature, gypsum content, and the type of grinding aid can all affect the final result.
 
I would like to hear from engineers and plant operators with practical experience:
 
1. Which factors have the greatest influence on the optimum grinding aid dosage?
2. How do you normally determine or adjust the dosage during plant trials?
3. How does the optimum dosage change when switching between OPC, slag cement, or other blended cements?
4. Have you experienced cases where increasing grinding aid dosage did not improve mill output or even affected cement performance?
 
I am particularly interested in practical plant experience rather than only laboratory test results.
 
Any insights, operating experience, or recommendations would be appreciated.

The optimum grinding aid dosage depends largely on the actual mill conditions. Clinker grindability, cement fineness, separator efficiency, ventilation and cement temperature should all be considered.

For blended cement, such as slag or fly ash cement, the optimum dosage can also be different from OPC. In practice, it is better to test several dosage levels and compare mill output, fineness, power consumption and cement strength.

Another factor worth considering is that the optimum dosage can vary significantly between cement types and raw materials.

For example, slag and fly ash often behave differently from clinker during grinding, so simply increasing the dosage may not improve performance. A small plant trial with several dosage levels is usually the best way to determine the most economical dosage.
