We have been having to treat our propane occasionally because it fails the Copper Strip Corrosion Test. We have been using an H2S scavenger, assuming it is H2S that causes it to fail.
Sometimes this works as expected and sometimes it does not. Sometimes a tank will be bad, we will circulate it overnight, pumping in the scavenger through the night, and the tank will test good the following day.
But then later the same day or the next day it will fail the Copper Strip Test again, even though nothing more was added to the tank.
Are there other compounds that can cause a bad copper strip test? Are they all sulfur compounds? Are there other substances that might work in conjunction with H2S to cause it to fail? Would Oxygen make it worse?

Carbonyl sulfide (i.e., COS) and mercaptans (i.e., RSH) do not tarnish copper by themselves. However:
(1) COS in the presence of water will slowly hydrolyze to form H2S which will tarnish the copper.
(2) Mercaptans in the presence of any organic acids will tarnish copper.
Has your LPG been treated with Merox or any other process for removal or conversion of mercaptans?
I suggest you contact the Petrolite division of Baker Hughes at:

They may be able to help you.
