Hello!
I'm working on a bibliographic research and I'm not yet too skilled in english technical terms. I need help with the term "settling" for chemical engineering: is it used only in reference to water treatment?, is it always the same as "sedimentation" or has it more meanings?.
Thank you very much if you can help me.

Your question is a little bit vague. When I see the term settling, my first thought is indeed that it is the same as sedimentation. It is the movement of a dispersed phase (e.g. liquid droplets, solid particles etc.), relative to a continuous phase (e.g. a liquid or a gas), as a result of gravity force (or other forces, for example electrostatic forces).
Term settling is also used in "settling out pressure of a compressor".
Maybe you can give some more details about the context in which the term settling is used?

Thank you very much. I did need the exact meaning of "settling" when it has to do with clarification, so I think you have solved my problem (I thought that it may also mean something like flotation, or filtration...). So, thank you very much again.
