I would like to know how to sulfide a catalyst in the lab, the best way and the simplest. Can I use CS to sulfide, and what is the procedure for that.

Thank You

hi,

i know how to do it in the plant not the lab.

as i see it you can use nitrogen and hydrogen and mix it with a sulphiding agent such as DMDS. raise the temerature of the mixture above the decomposition temp, above 425 F. to start catalyst sulphideing you need to raise the temperature to about 430 F.

you can also use hydrocarbon oil with max end point of 375 C D86 aSTM that has sulphur in it to sulphide the catalyst. we use light diesel and heat it to about 530 F.

you can produce H2s by metal reduction in the lab by mixing acid and sulpur oxide, FeS + HCl for example and heat it up with the catalyst.

the sulphiding process is very dangerous as H2S is produced and its very toxic.

i know that you can actually buy presulphided catalyst. it has some sulphur binded to the catalyst and when heated up it decompose and supply the sulphur.

just some ideas. talk to catalyst companies such as albemarle, axens, criterion... ask for help. they have some papers on thier site as well, those as good.

cheers
