Hello,

I'am busy with the design of a vacuum distillation. The tower has 36 trays, operated at a pressure of 80 mbar (top). Now my question is, how can i design the vacuumpump?

Thanks for the s/sheet - I'm so happy that some people actually work things out themselves. When I started work the first thing I was told was to forget everything Id ever learned at university (in my case not much) but I still feel this is the wrong attitude.

Can I just add this link to the thread

You will be able to find a lot of useful information here on vacuum systems.

As a footnote. When im selecting vacuum pumps I normally use the lazy approach - towhit ring up a Vac pump company tell them system volume, required pump down time, required vacuum, leakage rate and what kind of chemicals are in there and they'll do the rest. If you decide to do this then I can recommend pompe traviani (italian - I hope i spelled it correctly). The best thing about this company is that they can normally get you a quote with curves and everything in about 2 hours.
