Could anybody provide some guidelines on sample locations, sampling frequency, sampling procedures and sample containers for glycol dehydration and amine treatment units in gas plants.
I am working on standards for "Sampling Procedures" for one of my clients.

This is a pretty old and well-worn engineering procedure(s) that have been resolved ever since the Girbotol process became a common industrial operation in 1933. Process operating engineers simply put their common sense and needs to work and to paper and came up with:
- Always sample the rich solution into the heat exchangers for composition and the lean solution out of the same exchangers (& cooler). If there is a similarity in the water content (in the case of glycol) or in the CO2 content (in the case of the amine), then there is a leakage in the exchangers.
- Always sample the composition of the lean solution out of the reboiler
- Always sample the acid gas into and out of the amine absorber;
- Always sample the rich solution out of the amine absorber;
- Always sample the dry gas out of the glycol contactor;
- You want to test for acid gas pick-up and water content.
If you want specifics on analysis, you have to ask your engineering design company that built or designed your unit. Describing sample containers is pretty basic and something that is common sense. I see no reason to go into that subject in this forum. Sampling procedures are also basic information that should be well known and practiced by a professional engineer. This is like teaching a teenager how to walk. Work with your chemists and lab technicians on these procedures – which they should dominate.

For lean amine sample should be taken which is going to the amine surge tank (outlet of Regenerator). For glycol sample should be taken suction of glycol circulation pump.
Amine sample is twice in a day and glycol once in a day.
Sampling procedures : a clean plastic bottle can be used many times until it tear . Before use old bottle rinse ,the bottle with sample properly and purge the sample line properly so that the sample line is well hot.
