Hi Friends,

How much efficiency will be considered for Twin screw pump during design stage?
Fluid to be pumped is crude oil.
For centrifugal pumps, we used to consider 65-70% efficiency.

And Power calculation for screw pump will remain same as centrifugal pump or differs? Advise.

Swak.
Twin screw pumps performance vary so much with the viscocity of the crude to be pumped and the velocity of the pump.
We have installe a Bonemann pump in 2006 as a pipeline booster pump in south Argentina to pump a crude with 80cSt viscocity, 1654 rpm and discharge presure of 79 bar@140m³/h, performance was 66.8%
Chapter 3 of Karasik pumping manual gives typical overall efficiency curves for estimating performance.

Hello,

Like mdteng said it is very variable. Once I talked to a Bornemann Sales Engineer and we agreed to take 60% pump efficiency, then 20% more power for motor specifications. That’s are the rule of thumb that I follow when y use this kind of pump’s.
Bye!!!!!
