Could you please anybody explain about "what is the importance of minimum flow recirculation line in pumping system "

Its for Pump safety or Process safety ?

Thanks in advance,

For centrifugal pump, minimum flow recirculation to avoid possible damage of pump due to cavitation, system stability, internal circulation, return thrust force damage bearing, etc.

Dear

Pump recirculation is provided for pump protection.Every pump has its minimum flow below which pump cannot be operated. This is because at low flow pump may damage due to vibrations.

There are two types of minimum flows.
1. process minimum flow.
2.Pump minimum flow.

Circulation line is provided if pump min is greater than process minimum.

Dear dhns,

May I simply add that for multi stage high pressure viscous liquids Electric Motor driven centrifugal pumps; the minimum flow line helps soft initial start and stable smooth transfer to normal load operating condition.
Hope this helps.
