Hi

I need to survey our sites agitator and relate this to potential of ignition due to the agitator potentiality of hitting the inside of the vessal wall.

There are a number of factors to consider like
• Speed of agitator
• Diameter of agitator
• Shaft length and thickness
• Level of liquid in vessel

I have found reference to 1 m/s speed, but can find no reference to shaft length or thickness

Does anyone have any info?

Dear
I do not exactly recall the reference to vessel, but sometime back at my previous employer's site
while auditing/reviewing a floating roof crude oil storage tank's agitator design
extent of its protuding-in
possibility of its hitting the floating roof of on its lower operating level position
got floating roof potoon altered to provide ample safe space
additionally tripping inter-locks at low level in agitator motor were incorporated
for safety of system
Hope this helps in some way
Regards

I have no problmes fitting level devices (tuning forks) to stop the agitator when liquid level is below the agaitator.

But it would be nice to be able to put some figures to speed and relate this to a shaft lenght

Dear v8landy,
Incidently I am not anymore with the previous employer and may have to dig out old notes if anything is available.
However what I recall probably this was 'Plenty'brand tank mixer or agitator used.
Hope this may help.
