Hi,
Can anyone please tell me why NCV is used for calculating heat of combution and not gross calorific value.

The difference between HHV and LHV is in the amount of heat equal to condensation enthalpy of water from the flue gas. Since you'll hardly see such low temperatures of flue gases at which water will appear as liquid - speaking of industrial applications - the most practical reference value is LHV.

The condensation enthalpy (GHV-LHV) is not the interest of combustion...
