Hi all,
I am on look out for correction factor formulas for different types of Shell and Tube HE. I am planning to do a programme which will calcualte correction factor for LMTD without using the charts. For that i am in lookout of formulas for different configuration of Shell and Tube HE. I got Kern formula for 1-2 Shell and Tube HE, and searched for other types but could not get it. Do anyone have the formualtion of it kindly give the reference for it.

With regards

Hi there,

My copy of D. Kern's book contains all charts, and it's quite old edition. You can also look at R. Serth's "Process Heat Transfer", or E. Ludwig's "Applied Process Design". These are the first two textbooks which crossed my mind; certainly there are plenty of others as well.

Subramaniam:

As usual, Zauberberg's technical library is on a parity with mine. Although not presently at my residence, I clearly remember the easy availability of the LMTD correction Factor charts in Kern's "Process Heat Transfer" and Ludwig's "Applied Process Design in Chemical and Petrochemical Plants". I often wanted to take the time to take each of the subject curves and regress it into an equation that would allow me to apply it to a computer program that I was planning for quick heat exchanger ratings. I have the task assigned to a priority number on a long list of other items and I haven't gotten to it yet.

I believe that is what you are planning to do as well. Am I correct? If you succeed in regressing the data into equations, could you share the resultant equations with other members in our Forums?

Zauberberg:

I see you now find yourself in Equatorial Guinea, African West Coast. I sincerely hope all is going well for you and that the country, the food, the climate, and the people are all to your benefit and enjoyment. It must be quite a change from the Middle East and I think you are looking to profit from the engineering and technical challenges that I know exist there. I know you are up to the challenges in knowledge and expertise and I hope the challenges are of your liking and variety.

May you spend Happy Holidays and have a Prosperous New Year in your surroundings.

Hello Art,

Thank you very much for your kind words and good wishes. It is always good to read your posts and threads, and is definitely great to have you here - or anywhere else. I hope I'll have an opportunity to meet you one day and shake your hand; I also hope you'll have many many years ahead, to spend them with your family and, from time to time, to share your precious experiences with us.

West Africa is a beautiful place, it's a different civilization. I think the only problems here are mosquitos and poverty, both of them being quite difficult to battle with. People are the same - everyone dreaming about happiness, justice, mercy, and love, like all of us. It appears that it is not possible to achieve them in this world, but rather in the next one, which will come as it was promissed. Christmas days always bring this thought in my heart.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, and best wishes in the New Year from Serbian adventurer. cool.gif

Happy holidays to all forum members and guests!

Dr. Lienhard's free and comprehensive heat transfer book is an excellent resource on this topic. Many thanks to him for making it freely available. Also, a one time you could download a free heat transfer book from Wolverine. I'm not sure that's still available, but it was a pretty good quality book so it'd be worth some effort. Try looking for it at www.wlv.com. Beyond that, this site and some similar engineering websites (e.g. eng-tips.com) offer various materials related to heat transfer.

Hi, I'm also looking for the equations for LMTD Correction Factors.
I found the website calculator , and an article with equation but only for the Cross Flow HX.
I hope this will help, Regards.

Hi,

The equations can be found in "Process Heat Transfer Principles and Applications" by Robert W. Serth.

Good Luck

Hi

I have prepared some notes on heat exchanger fouling that I used for training of new fresh graduate engineers. In the note I have included correlation for Fc. However, I believe that correlation was from Kern's.

See attached.
