Can anyone share some ideas on the amount of CH4 required in steam reforming to prodce enough hdrogen for 150,000 TPY of methanol production ?
Are there some approximate guidelines/rules of thumb ?
Just looking for a quick and dirty estimate.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

A plain vanilla guide is to use a steam to carbon ratio of 3 to 3.5 (mass basis).
Depends on a range of factors including your level of risk aversion to the potential for carbon lay down (run at higher values), process economy (lower values) and process constraints (consult your catalyst vendor, e.g Johnson Matthey, Haldor Topsoe or Sued-Chemie, for detailed info).
The above should offer a reasonable start to suit rough and ready estimation.

Hi Denny,
Can you provide your NASA e-mail ID. I would like to correspond to you regarding reducing carbon foot print.
Regards,
Ankur.
