Hello and Happy New Year to everybody.
I have some questions about bulk storage of Dichloromethane (M.W. = 84.93, Boiling pt. = 39.8 degC).
What is the operating temperature and pressure of the storage tank for Dichloromethane?
What kind of arrangement is provided to prevent the vapour losses?
How is Dichloromethane transported in bulk quantities? Is it transported at a lower temperature?
Best regards
amaity

Dear Amaity,
As we all know B.Pt of DCM is 39.8°C, it must be stored in temerature below to its boiling point. Also if the Location of Tank installed is having room temperature more than 35°C, it is adviseable to provide a insulated layer on the tank to prevent heat transfer. installation of a vent condenser with chilled water circulation will reduce DCM Losses. Jacketed Tank with cooling water circulation is also good option.
Safety devices may could include, HIgh and Low Level Alarm System, Breather valve Installation. Although DCM is not flameable but if flame arrestor is
installed before breather valve, plz note that MOC should be SS-304. Testing of Breather valve on regular intervals is also important to prevent pressurization of tank. DCM Storage should be done under atmospheric condition and after fabrication of Tank, Pressure testing should be done.
Hope the given information be beneficial to you.

Sahil
