Hi all

We happen to start with the design of small boiler for capacity of 3MW . Objectively the boiler will be a WHR boiler and to be used in cement plant. since it does not have any circulation, superheater, coalfeeding , and henace can be treated as heat exchanger to generate the steam. Now my wary is which design procedureal we follow either ASME SEC VIII or TEMA . How ever to mitigate my concieveness , since the boiler do not have that much criticality by its nature, i presume we can go for TEMA as well . If not what is the reason and how substantially it differ to ASME .

Can any body provide me the design doc as per ASME SECTION VIII

Thanks for being so understanding
rahul

Heat Exchangers are usually mechanically designed and fabricated as per the ASME code, and according to TEMA standards.

Please note the above terminology and understand what it means. I think that you are getting confused with a "code" and a "standard". They are different terms and different documents.

Do you have copies of the ASME code as well as of the TEMA standards?

Why are you mechanically designing the exchanger? Usually all you would do is specify it to a designer/fabricator who would follow your instructions in order to put a quotation together. Are you planning on fabricating heat exchangers? If so, I can confidently predict that this waste heat recovery unit will result costing much more as fabricated by you rather than from an established, professional heat exchanger fabricator.

Thanks for your generosity sir

Here is my quiries furthur to your response

1) Decisivly iam not looking for any fabricatior , all i am concern is the process and mechanical design of heat exchanger that will be insiade the WHR boiler. If iam not wrong Boiler with out its subequipment like (CFBC, Superheat chamber, coal feeding) can be envisages and treated as a heat exchanger and furthur having the design(Thermal and Mechanical) roadmap couple with all pertinent thermal and mech test the WHR boiler can be designed. If that is teh case can i follow the TEMA Methodology

2) Sir just to get the brand idea , i need to get enlightened by you that at which point the steam start generates in the heat exchanger equipment , presumably it(water ) gets start saturated at just entering teh boiler enterance

3) Sir gas flow inside the heat exchanget will be turbulant , so which methodology i adopt to calculate the overall heat transfer coeff

4) Lastly while trying to get the considerable idea for designing the heat exchanger firstly which value i should calculate , Overall Heat trans(U) or Area . I do have the input parameter of gas and water

Awaiting for your reply
