Hi, im doing a fourth year design project and need a rough cost for the following 2 columns. I would greatly apreciate any help as ive tried C and R by Sinnott and a few other books however cant find informtion on columns of diameter much greater than 3m


Height = 40.56m
Diameter = 3.66m
Number of trays = 55
Material of construction = low carbon steel
Shell thickness = 10 mm (to be honest more of a guess than anything else let me know if you have any thoughts)
Mass of column (excluding trays) = 36814 kg
Insulation = unsure although column would have be insulated to avoid significant process disturbances due to rain, outside temperature ect

Height = 16.02m
Diameter = 5.43m
Number of trays = 20
Material of construction = low carbon steel

Insulation = unsure although column would have be insulated to avoid significant process disturbances due to rain, outside temperature ect

Both columns will operate close to or at atmospheric pressure and is to be located in the UK. (I have been instructed to ignore the transport problems of such a large piece of equipment)

I realise that details such as weld quality, ladders and structural support have been omitted so any estimate is of limited use however this is a single sommester project with many process units and so only a certain level of detail is required.
