Hi,
I have some information on a heat exchanger on a P&I from another country; it states the volume on the SS and TS instead of the area of heat transfer. There are some dimensions as well but I am unable to interpret which one is the dianeter etc.
I wanted to know if anyone has come across such a notation and can help me with this. Thank you.
Type Capacity Dimension Heat capacity/exchange area (kw/m2)
Cooler SS:1.2 m3
TS:0.24 m3 1300x894x790 49
OP(bar) OT(°C)
SS:0.1 TS: 6 SS:150 TS:60

Let me take a stab at this;
I would suggest 1300 mm is the tube length
and 894 is the shell I.D.
then 790 is number of tubes.
My reasoning is as follows:
The most common tube O.D. is 19.05 mm, lets assume the tubes are gauge 20 (BWG) this means the tube wall thickness is 0.889 mm. So the tube I.D. is 17.272 mm.
The volume of 1 tube is (PI*1.3*(17.272/1000)^2)/4 = 0.000305 m^3 so total tube side vol (with 790 tubes) is 0.24 m^3.
Actually when you then calculate the shell volume based on my assumptions it comes out at 0.82 - 0.24 = 0.58 m^3. Which is no good.
Sorry mate I'm stumped!
