Can anyone help me estimate viscosity, specific heat and thermal conductivity for heavy crude oils? I need to do some flow simulations and evaluate fluid cooling due to ambient temperatures. I'm looking at a variety of heavy crudes - say from about API 20 down to API 12. I just need typicals, and am really struggling to find anything. Help!

Well, I don't have readymade data for you but you'll be able to find in the huge sea of crude database available on net. Each oil company has posted their database, try to search what suits you; ensure that you read their terms and conditions and follow them. Try the links available on http://en.wikipedia....Crude_oil_assay

Look for "Petroleum refinery engineering" by Wilbur Nelson. A lot of charts and correlations for estimating crude oil properties can be found there.

In addition to the Nelson reference by Zauberberg, there is a "Data Book on Hydrocarbons" by J.B. Maxwell

If you can access the 'Crude Manager' software by spiral ,its a cake walk.

Also if if you have a list of required crude oils (small one ;) ! ) i can help you with the properties.

Dear,
I will strongly recommend you not to use any simulator for prediction of viscosity of crude rather you give viscosity curve from its assay to get the right viscosities for your cuts. Yes Spiral's crude manager has a huge database. Aspen Hysys has an inbuilt crude manager software (check with the type of license) which you can use while charecterzing oil.
