Hi all

do you have any idea what's the different between rectangular & circular impingement plate? is it something to do with efficiency of distributing shell side flow?

Thanks. :)

Hi,

as far as I know, main pourpose of impigment plate is not flow distribution but protection of heat exchanger tubes from erosion. If haeting meduim is saturated steam for example, it contains condensate droplets, which are very erosive. So in this aspect I see no difference between circular or rectangular impigment plate. You can find procedure for sizing impigment plate in literature-Waermeatlas for example (here is for rectangular plate only). I would guess that rectangular plate is more standard (also if you search for sizing methods) and it is easier to make (it is cut by laser, bent to make support and weldet to vessel).

I hope this is of some help.

Best regards
