Dear All,

I am a process engineer working in an EPCC company of oil & gas sector. I need to make a comparison between Well Head Compression and Central Compression. Our client wants to know the advantages of central compression facility as apparently central compression of all wells is much cost beneficial than compression at individual wells. I request to share me with your experiences and expert opinion so that I would be able to prepare a comprehensive response for our client.

Rgds,

Ali

Ali:

You yourself have already stated that it is obvious that central compression (& processing) stations are more efficient than multiple field units.

Of course that is correct. The obvious truth is:

  • A central compression unit has capital investment economy-of-scale in the compression equipment. It is far lower in cost to invest in and operate larger and less units in one locationñ
  • The cost of operations is much lower due to reduced labor costs. No time is lost in field trips and installing field instrumentation. Maintenance is far less in central units.
  • The quality of the operation is much higher in centralized operations. Supervision is much more effective and efficiencies are also much higher.
  • Personnel safety is much higher and better controlled in centralized units.

I hope this helps.
