Good day all

Need your opinion regarding to the chemical storage tank. I need to do sizing for chemical storage tank (corrosion inhibitor, dispersant and acid) that feed to cooling tower basin. My question is, why we don’t use typical vertical cylinder tank with normal cone roof? The system should be not pressurized. Mostly in plant use horizontal type vessel for storage. Appreciate your comment.

farid.k,

There is no limitation using cylindrical atmospheric storage tanks for chemical storage applications. It might, in the case you are referring, the storage volume isn't so high and using horizontal type vessel has been preferred...

does it caused by the properties of the chemical?? cuurent tank need to be replaced is because the tank material is not suitable with the chemical and always leak. or does it easier to make coating with vessel compared to the tank?? or due to space limitation?

thanks

farid.k,

It might the vessel along with the dosing pumps included in a skid as a package. If so, the package designer might be faced to space (dimensions or elevation) limitation to decide selection of horizontal vessel. Material compatibility couldn't affect to go for such decision.

for standard typical tank, we have standard guieline for design like API, EN, ie for venting, in breathing and out breathing etc. but for this vessel, where to refer?

farid.k,

You can use one of the standards related to shop fabricated tanks such as STI (steel tanks institute) in manufacturing standpoint and API 2000 rules for its safe venting system...
