Hi Everyone

Does any one knows any reference as design criteria for sizing Sump Drum in tank farm area?

I couldn't find any thing?

Define scenarios for liquid inflow to the sump drum, such as:

  • Preparation of storage tank pumping system for maintenance;
  • Collection of waste fluids following tank cleaning (e.g. during major turnaround);
  • Fluid management upon incidental spillage into the bund area (I would avoid this event category for sump drum sizing and would use other options instead, but depending on where you are these options may not be available);
  • Sampling / sample disposal.

Based on material balance you get for these cases/scenarios, sizing becomes very much straightforward.

Hi,

 

The sump drum should be sized based on the biggest volume among following incoming fluid scenarios:

 

-Tank(s) cleaning fluid

-Tank(s) drains below low low liquid level for the purpose of maintenance, repair,...

-Waste incoming fluid during first tank filling, if the tank isn't clean enough

 

It's obvious, the confined fluid inside the diked area following to an incident (if planned to be conducted to the sump drum) can be managed to be handled part by part through the sump drum based on the selected volume by a.m. sizing criteria...

 

it's supposed the sump drum content will be evacuated, say by pump, once it's full of liquid fluid...for subsequent processing/disposal...
