Hi,

 

I am a PhD student in natural gas processing working on building a lab scale LNG scrub column (for separating LPG from C1). The purpose of this experimental rig is to study the vapor liquid equilibrium and mass transfer in the column (dynamic and steady state), which will enable to collect valuable data to improve existing or develop new equation of states and optimize the cryogenic distillation of C1.

 

I have to implement a level meter in this scrub column but have no experience in level measurement at all. What  type do we usually use in the industry for a scrub column in a LNG plant?

 

The temperature range from -60 to 0 °C (pressure up to 20-40 bar) and the compounds are C1/C2/C3/iC4/iC5. But most of the liquid will be the heavy components.

 

Since we are at low temperature and that the liquid density is not constant, what kind of level meter do you suggest me to use? I briefly read somewhere that tonar type with probe might suit ?

 

The scrub column is to be operated with a packed ed (random or structured).

 

Please advice.
