Dear All,

I wish to size a sump pump (type VS4 API pump). I would be grateful, if anybody could help me.

If you have a sample sump pump datasheet, it will be good for me.

Thank you in advance!

Best Regards,

Freeman

You need to consider the sump size and inflow along with pump sizing. You want to avoid frequent starting and stopping. So a datasheet doesn't tell you much.

Thank you for the recent reply!

the sump size and the flow rate are known. The operation of the pump is intermittent. what's the difference between the conventional centrifugal pump and sump pump sizing.

what are differences between data sheets provided for vendor

Hi ,

Consider the resource attached to support your work and probably also good to contact vendors like flygt:

Dear SPC,

Thank you so much for your reply!

Is it possible to share the data sheet in the file format (pdf , doc, or xls).

Best Regards,

Freeman

Are you a process engineer or a mechanical (rotary) engineer.

If you are process engineer then pump hydraulics shall be carried out like normal centrifugal pump.

1. Flowrate: Working volume of the sump (HLL to LLL) / time in which the sump needs to be emptied

2. Head Calculation: The way it is done in any other pump (head generally is mentioned at the discharge flange in case of sump pumps).

3. Design Pressure: Like any other centrifugal pump i.e. shutoff factor * rated head + highest suction pressure.

4. Requirement for ware house spare (as per philosophy)

5. Auto start/stop requirement based on HH and LL liquid level

6. Pump inhibition to start in case handling high temperature fluid (i.e. considering destination vessel design temperature)

The process datasheet of normal centrifugal pump can be used for sump pump.

Chemitofreak,

I am Process Engineer. This Pump data sheet is prepared for Purchase requisition. This is Prepared by Rotary / Mechanical group.

Required details are provided & sufficient.

Dear Freeman,

Can you guide me please to upload excel sheet as I am unable to do the same. May be this file would be useful for you.

Regards,

SPC

Chemitofreak!

Thank you so much!

I'm a process engineer. your reply helped me much. Are the pump dimensions including the distance between the bell and the sump floor mentioned in the datasheet?

Thank you again!

Freeman

The size is finalised based on info received from the vendor.

But, based on my experience 600 mm x 600 mm x 600 mm sump in OWS would suffice ( 600 mm ID x 600 mm height for Closed Drain Drum).

Revert in case of any query.

As I've investigated, there are two frequent-use vertical pumps namely, VS1 and VS4 API pumps. I think it's the responsibility of the vendor to specify the type.

please leave your comment!

Yes, as my earlier post suggested it is finalized by the pump vendor. The values specified were on the basis of my personal experience.
