Question: What is a good method of analyzing powders for composition?

Answer: A method known as Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscropy is often used for this purpose. FT-IR sends light beams of varying wavelength through the sample and the reflected light is analyzed by spectroscopy to find the absorption of each wavelength.
