Question: How can I determine the largest impeller that a pump can handle?
Keywords: maximum,impeller,size
Answer: The motor amperage should be measured in the field with the pump discharge valve wide open. Subtract about 10% from the pumps maximum rated amperage. Then the maximum impeller size can be determined from:A2 = A1(d2/d1)3A2 = Maximum amperage minus 10%A1 = Current operating amperaged2 = Maximum impeller diameterd1 = Current impeller diameter
