Industry uses four different classes of vaccum:

Rough Vacuum	760 to 1 torr
Medium Vacuum	1 to 10^-3 torr
High Vacuum	10^-3 to 10^-7 torr
Ultra High Vacuum	below 10^-7 torr

Rough vacuum is of prime concern for chemical engineers. This is the range where most vacuum distillation, evaporation, drying, and filtration occurs. Medium vacuum is employed in molten metal degassing, molecular distillation, and freeze drying. High and Ultra High vacuum are used in space simulation, cryogenic research, mass spectrometry, and the production of thin films.
