Answer: There are literally dozens of chemical plants worldwide that produce anhydrous ammonia. The worldwide production in 1999 was about 100,000 metric tons, of which about 11,000 tons was produced in USA plants.The typical ammonia-producing plant first converts natural gas (i.e., methane) or LPG (liquified petroleum gases such as propane and butane) or petroleum naphtha into gaseous hydrogen.
