Keywords: alkylation,unit,reactor,type,design,drawings,stratco,contactor,cascade,phillips
Answer: There are three major types of reactor used in oil refinery alkylation units: (1) Stratco contactor/reactor when using sulfuric acid as the catalyst, (2) Cascade reactor, also when using sulfuric acid as the catalyst, and (3)Phillips reactor when using hydrofluoric acid. Schematic drawings of these three types of reactors are provided in "Petroleum Refining, Technology and Economics", Second Edition, written by James Gary and Glenn Handwerk.
