Question: Where is cyanide generated in the refining process?
Keywords: cyanide,generation,refinery,process
Answer: Most of the cyanide, if not all of it, generated in a refinery is a by-product of the catalytic or non-catalytic thermal cracking processes such as: fluid catalytic crackers, cokers, thermal crackers, and visbreakers. It usually appears in the sour waters derived from the overhead reflux drums for the main distillation columns in those process units.
