Question: How can I reduce the solids content of FCC decanter oil?
Keywords: decanter,decanted,oil,filtration
Answer: There are several technologies that can be used to remove solids from the decanted oil. Slurry settlers were very popular in the past. These were standard equipment on many older FCC's. Most have been taken out of service so a used settler may be easy to find. Both Pall and Mott sell filter systems to remove catalyst from decanted oil. The Gulftronic Separator uses beds of electrically charged quartz beads to separate catalyst. Hydroclones (liquid cyclones) are also popular for reducing the catalyst level in the decanted oil. All of these methods concentrate the catalyst into an underflow stream that is returned to the FCC. One side effect of this catalyst return is the possibility a slight increase in the catalyst losses from the regenerator.
