Question: What are some good methods of spent FCC catalyst disposal or recycling?
Keywords: fluidized,catalytic,cracker,fcc,catalyst,recycle,disposal
Answer: The most common disposal options for spent FCC catalyst are (the order of presentation does not reflect any use preference): 1. Disposal in an appropriate land fill. This option may be limited by environmental regulations due to the presence of various metal oxides on the catalyst. 2. Use in other FCCs or RFCC's. If the spent catalyst is low in metals, it can be used in other FCC's processing higher metal feed stocks. There is a fairly well developed market for this option. 3. Cement manufacture. Spent catalyst can be incorporated in cement. This option is particularly attractive if there is a cement plant near the refinery. It can also be used as aggregate in concrete. 4. There have been cases where spent FCC catalyst has been added to asphalt road base and to clay used for tile manufacture. These options were not, however, widespread and may be unacceptable in some areas.
