Question: How can the higher heating values (HHV) for petroleum products be estimated from the specific gravity?

Answer: The following three general expression are used for estimating the higher heating values for petroleum products. These expressions are for the heating values in Btu/lb. Multiple the result by 2.3 to get KJ/kg.For fuel oil:HHV = 13050 + (5600/SG)For gasoline:HHV = 12720 + (5600/SG)For kerosene: HHV = 12840 + (5600/SG)
