Question: How do I remove the odor from kerosene?
Keywords: odor,smell,kerosene,merox,sweetening,mercaptans
Answer: The odor in your kerosene is probably due to mercaptans being present in the kerosene. The mercaptans can be removed by scrubbing the kerosene with a 10-15 Baume aqueous solution of caustic (i.e., sodium hydroxide). A fixed-bed Merox sweetening unit could also be used.
