Question: | What are some methods of improving filtration in amine plants? |
Keywords: | solid,filtration,amine,plants,performance |
Answer: | First, a good amine solution should be transparent, almost colorless. To keep the amine clean, be sure that hydrocarbon contamination is minimized upstream of the amine unit. As far as filtration is concerned, 1. A lot of refiners deem it good sense to route at least 10% of amine flow through the filter section. 2. Change over cartridge type filters at least once every three months even if you do not read a high pressure drop. Remember, damaged and torn filters do not restrict flow or catch solids. 3. If you have a backflow wash circuit on the charcoal filter, run it at least once every two weeks. 4. Install pressure drop cells across each filter if not already installed. 5. If you load a fresh stock of charcoal in the activated charcoal filter, wash the bed with DM water to wash out any fines. Bring the filter online only after wash effluent is clear. For the first 48 hours after commissioning a new charcoal bed, change over cartridge filters every four hours and get them cleaned. |
