Question: How can I clean the inside of a sour water tank and still maintain a high degree of safety?

Answer: Water wash it well. Purge it with air. Force air flow through the tank. Blind, lock out and tag the lines in and out of the vessel. Use protective clothing and external air source for entry and work. Specific procedures should already be developed by your plant's HS&E personnel. If not, contact a contractor that specializes in this sort of work.
