Question: What are some common causes for pressure build up in the vapor space of a LPG storage vessel?
Keywords: v1i11,lpg,liquefied,petroleum,gas,storage,tank,vapor,space,pressure,change,controll
Answer: The following are four (4) common causes for pressure build up in such a tank:a. The tank undergoes a heat up or temperature changeb. Non-condensibles are introduced (Ex/ N2 for inerting)c. Liquid product is pumped into the tank faster the the vapor can achieve equilibrium with its liquid content.d. A significantly different composition of LPG is introduced into the tank (a lighter component)Vapor balance lines are often employed on such tanks so that the pumping rate to the tank is NOT controlled by equilibrium. Remember that if 100% LPG gas is being stored, the pressure in the vapor space will be the vapor pressure of the liquid and this pressure will vary only the tank temperature and the composition of any other incoming liquid.Reference: Mr. Art Montemayor
