Answer: A plastics recycling company called Fix-Corp uses a process employing supercritical carbon dioxide to separate the plastic (usually high density polyethylene, HDPE) from the residual oil. After the supercritical carbon dioxide is contacted with the ground plastic chip, it is vaporized so that the oil may be recovered. This technology has also been licensed to Allied Signal Corporation.
