Question: How do I determine how much electricity can be generated via a steam turbine?
Keywords: electricity,from,steam,turbine
Answer: For a preliminary calculation, let's assume that you have a steam turbine that is 75% efficient. Find the latent heat of the steam that you have available (we'll assume that the steam is saturated). Now, the theoretical steam rate is:TSR = 3600 (kJ/kWh) / Latent Heat (kJ/kg)and the Actual Steam Rate is the TSR divided by the efficiency:ASR = TSR/0.75Now, you have a result with units of kg/kWh. This means that you need x kilograms of steam to produce a kWh of electricity.
