Can anyone recommend some references, either something that I can access online, or good reference books? Also, for experienced practicioners, what commercially available software packages would you recommend to do pinch analysis for heat exchanger networks?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I have not been involved in Pinch analysis myself, but in the book called "Advanced Thermodynamics for Engineers", there is a chapter dedicated to this, which is based on some sample problems and I think is a great introduction. I have attached a copy of the first page for easy reference.
As for specialised software, I cannot help you there unfortunately.
Good luck!

An introduction chapter can be downloaded from: http://www.elsevierd...80750682602.PDF
A few interesting articles are attached below (I guess you were referring to the Linhoff-March materials when speaking about KBC), and the Pinch spreadsheet developed by IChemE. I didn't have an opportunity to test it so I cannot tell how accurate and reliable it is.
Good luck,

I am a senior process engineer (ChE) working for an E&C firm that does a lot of work for oil refineries. I have been trying to learn about using Pinch Analysis to optimize the design for integrated heat transfer systems such as the crude oil preheat train for crude atmospheric distillation units. I want to understand the analysis method before I start working with a commercial software package to perform the analysis for an actual project. I have found a couple of references such as, "Pinch Technology: Basics for Beginners" on this website and "Pinch Technology Introduction" on the KBC Energy Services website. However, I haven't been able to find a reference that includes a complete and comprehensive worked out example of all the steps involved in pinch analysis for even a simple heat exchanger network.
Can anyone recommend some references, either something that I can access online, or good reference books? Also, for experienced practicioners, what commercially available software packages would you recommend to do pinch analysis for heat exchanger networks?

Mike B,
You can find good reference and indepth knowldge from "Chemical Process Deisgn by Robin Smith" from chpater 6 and 7 for Pich Technology.

The work on Pinch Analysis by Bagajewicz is the best to learn and practice.
Good luck.

I can confirm that Chemical Process design by Robin Smith is very good for a beginner in pinch analysis. I study this book in MSc this period and it is really helpful.
I just got the Pinch Analysis and process integration from the Library, so I will let you know if it worths studying it!

Please find book: "Systematic Methods of Chemical Process Design, Lorenz T.Biegler/Ignacio E.Grossmann/ Arthur W.Westerberg", chapter 10 (page 341-386). It is useful for you.
Sorry I had only hardcopy, I cannot give you e-file.
