can anyone please give me a clue for piping selection for fire water system. i will be more precise , we used a HDPE piping as a fire water system . in our new project the contractor want to do the fire water system from the GRE . what is the main difference between both and what is most practical for this service . also which one of them more expensive.

many thanks for your support ,

regards

I dont have much experience with GRE, but when it comes to HDPE the Roughness Factor may produce minimal friction loss in your system but the material has a relatively low pressure rating. For large systems that require fire water pumps, I do not recommend using HDPE because PRV's will be required in order to keep the pressure rating from the pump discharge below the maximum rated pressure of the piping. But for small systems, enjoy your low friction loss.
