Hi All,

I am new to this community... can anyone tell, do we need to calculate compressor settle out pressure , if compressor system will depressurize in case of trip

Coz, i had a specific problem that one of my compressor vendor says, my compressor cannot be started once it reaches settle out condition without depressurization.

Please explain

Sathesh,

If you already have an existing compressor this information should be easily provided by the compressor vendor instead of you trying to some calculations. I can assure you that the compressor vendor is definitely the right source to get this information.

However, just as an academic exercise if you still want to indulge yourself, NORSOK Standard P-001 - Process Design gives some guideline to establish the shut-in (settle-out) pressure for centrifugal compressors on the last paragraph of page 5. The standard is available as a free download from the "Norwegian Standards" website:

Regards,
Ankur.

sathesh.chem,

If settle out pressure is to be higher than suction operating pressure (as are in most cases),seems vendor is right and for start up after shut down without depressurizing (as your case) compressor need to be depressurized (at least up to suction operating pressure).

Anyway, for making accurate decision take vendor advice and please inform Forum members of the result.
