A similar topic is covered in a reply, to a post, dated March 4, 2004 "scrubber design", in the "profes. forum" of this site.
For the basic equations, you could refer to Perry's handbook.
From a technical standpoint an absorber with chemical reaction differs from a regular absorber only by the fact that a chemical reaction will remove the absorbed product, thus pulling the process. A significant issue is the thermal effect, very often reactions involved are exothermic.
For the economics, use common sense. There will be a trade off between the operating costs (reagents, pumping power, fan power, discharge of bleed, ....) and the investment costs (diameter, height of absorber, technology, ...). If the reaction is slow, one may even consider trays with a high holdup, but in many a case a packed tower is the best choice.

hi dear,
dont worry,i have also designed a absorber for the removal of SO2 with help of caustic soda (NaOH) solution.ther is also achemical reaction b/w these two reactants.
u may cosult the books which i have used for my design.

"Chemical Engineering" by
Richardson and Coulson volume 2 and 6.

"Mass transfer Operations"by
Robert E, Treybal

"Applied Procees Design for Chemical and Petrochemical Industries"by
Ernest E.Ludwig volume 2.

"Unit Operation of chemical engineering"by
McCabe & Smith fifth edition

I hope u will be satisfied.
u may contact me via mail.
