Hi.
I am working on flare gas recovery system project. Actually flare gas is direct to flare (without liquid seal drum). I want to direct this gas to existing Flare Gas Recovery Unit. According to API Standard 521 I want to do this as shown on the picture below. Butterfly valve will by open on high pressure in header or compressor shutdown. Flare header has 48” diameter. Is it possible to use throttle (butterfly) as a pressure regulator when it will be mounted on the pipe with that diameter? Can any pressure instability occur in the flare header when this butterfly will open rapidly?

Movers,

I am attaching an article from "Argo Engineering" who have engineered and supplied quite a few Flare Gas Recovery Systems (FGRS). Currently all the off-shore operators in the North Sea are practicing zero flaring by utilizing FGRS. The Norwegian government provides incentives in terms of carbon credits to these operating companies and any emergency flaring has to be reported to the appropriate authorities. Flaring has been made a disincentive and there are taxes / penalties on flaring to the atmosphere.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.
