Dear Sir,

In Centrifugal pumps Closed impeller is more efficient than semi open impeller. Also suitable for clear/clean water. Does this mean all clear/clean water pumps to be of closed impeller only.

Kindly clarify.

Regards,
P.Sridhar

P. Sridhar:

The answer to your specific question is NO.

Simply because a type of pump is “suitable” for a certain service DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE USED FOR THAT SERVICE. There are a lot of other type of pumps that are also suitable for clear/clean water service.

Be careful how you are interpreting the use of the English language. The reason a closed type of impeller is mentioned as being suitable for clear/clean water service is because there is no risk of having the enclosed impeller passages plugged by solids or other contaminants.
