Hi there, I am currently trying to filter out magnesium carbonate from a batch. I have to decided on which kind of filter paper would be best for it.
Am I wanting to use a filter paper that would block of only the magnesium carbonate, or one that will block off all solids formed from the reaction?
the reaction involved charging carbon dioxide into a continuously stirred batch reactor tank contain synthesised concentrated seawater - roughly between 1.5 and 2 times the salinity of regular seawater, which should be magnesium rich.
Any further discussion is welcomed or if anything needs explained further then feel free to ask.
I look forward to some feedback, thanks in advanced!
Andrew

I don't understand how you can be selective during the filtration step . Anyway this kind of material is difficult to filtrate, a filter press industrialy will be suitable . After reaction you will need a settling tank where you will concentrate the mud prior to filtration.
Note : Coagulant /floculant will help .
Hope this helps
